Willie Fitzpatrick retires

Former NY West ODP Coach and Director of Coaching, Willie Fitzpatrick, just announced his retirement from soccer. Willie has coached at all levels in the Rochester area for over 20 years. He coached numerous club travel teams before becoming heavily involved with the New York West ODP program as an age group coach and then as its Director of Coaching. He also served as the head coach for the Finger Lakes CC men’s soccer team for several years and worked as Director of Coaching for the Rochester Jr. Rhinos. He was an assistant coach for the Syracuse based A-League team, the Salty Dogs. For the past two years Willie worked as the assistant coach under Laurie Calloway for the Rochester Raging Rhinos, and in February he was hired as the head coach for the Rhinos women’s team competing in the W-League.

In November 2005 Willie was inducted into the NYW Hall of Fame in recognition of his contributions to soccer.

Upon announcing his retirement, Willie Fitzpatrick stated that he wanted to be able to spend more time with his family.

“Willie did a tremendous job for us, and we’ll miss the passion he brought to our organization, “ said Rhinos Executive Vice President, Matthew Ford.

Sandy Ostebo, NYW Director of Public Affairs, commented: “Willie’s wit and dedication to the game will be missed, and we wish him all the best in his retirement.”
