2007 Outdoor Training Pools Selected

Monday, March 12, 2007

After a productive and very competitive indoor training season, the State Coaching staffs have selected the outdoor training pools for 2007.  All of the pools except for the 1990 Boy’s pool have been posted (the ’90 Boy’s pool will be posted within the next 24 hours).  To see the pools lists for each age group, select the 2006-07 Player Pools link to the left.

As is always the case, the level of competition made the choices very difficult for the staff in each of the age groups.  As the level of play continues to improve, the decisions about which players should be invited into the outdoor pools, and ultimately to the Region 1 ODP Tournament, become more difficult.  The new indoor training format allowed the staff to spend more time with the players, and put them in situations that would help to show their strengths and weaknesses.  In the three older age pools, the indoor play days provided an valuable opportunity for the staff to compare our players to other ODP caliber players form PA West and the Provincial teams from Ontario.

Unfortunately, the play days for the two younger age pools had to be canceled due to circumstances beyond any of our control, and the staff for those pools lost that valuable opportunity to see the players compete against other ODP caliber players.  As a result, the outdoor pools in the ’93 and ’94 pools are a little large than we would usually keep during the outdoor training program.  The staff felt this was necessary in order to give all of the players a fair and equitable opportunity to showcase their abilities, before making a final decision.

Your pool manager will contact you shortly with information about outdoor registration, the mini-camp in April, and the development weekend in May.

On behalf of the staff, I’d like to thank all of the players that had the courage to step outside of their comfort zone to see if they were ready for the next level of competition.  For those players that weren’t selected ... remember this doesn’t mean that your ODP career is over!  It just means that AT THIS POINT IN TIME, the staff didn’t feel that you were ready to take that next step.  Continue to work hard and don’t give up on your dream.  Come back next year and show us how much you have improved.

Thanks also to the parents for your continued support!
