For the second time in three years, NYSW will be sending an ODP team to Phoenix, AZ to compete for an ODP National Championship.  The NYW ‘01G’s ODP team will travel west to the ODP Final Four at the Reach 11 Sports Complex in Phoenix on March 3 – March 5, 2017.  The team, coached by Carrie Bonus and Steve Christenson, earned their way into the national semifinals by finishing atop their four team group at the ODP Regional Tournament in Trenton, New Jersey (June 10-12, 2016).  The team completed group play with an unbeaten record of 3-0, outscoring their opponents by a margin of 16-3 on their way to advancing to the ODP Region I semifinals in Kirkwood, DE (June 24-26, 2016).  There, they defeated a strong ENY squad (4-2) in the semi-final round and then went on to defeat an experienced Eastern PA team in the ODP Region I Championship final by a convincing 3-0 score line.  The crowning of the NYW ‘01G’s team as Region 1 Champions highlighted an unprecedented year for NYW ODP as the program garnered the distinction of being the only state in Region I to ever advance 5 (out of 6) of its boys and girls ODP teams competing in the U15, U16 and U17 age groups to the Region I Final Four.  This will be the second ODP team that Coach Bonus has led to the ODP National Final Four - she led the NYW ‘99G’s to a third place finish in 2015.

As the Region I ODP champion, the NYW ‘01G’s will compete in Phoenix with the ‘01G’s ODP champions from Region II - Iowa, Region III - Florida and Region IV - Cal-South for the ODP national title. The NYW 01G’s have drawn Cal-South in their semi-final on Friday, March 3^rd at 1pm (MST).
