Free NYSWYSA Coaches Workshop to Feature Jay Hoffman

The 2016 NYSW Coaches Workshop will be held on Fri/Sat, November 18/19, 2016 at the Italian American Community Center in Rochester, NY and the Doug Miller Family Sports Park (Field Sessions) in Spencerport, NY.   We are happy to announce that this year’s workshop will feature US Soccer’s most experienced coach educator, Jay Hoffman.  Approaching 40 years of service as a USSF Coaching License Instructor and the co-author of numerous USSF coaching manuals, Hoffman boasts high level coaching experience with both men and women, from youth players on up to the professional level. 

In conjunction with the NYSWYSA Annual General Meeting, the 2016 NYSW Coaches Workshop will be held on Fri/Sat, November 18/19, 2016 at the Italian American Community Center in Rochester, NY and the Doug Miller Family Sports Park (Field Sessions) in Spencerport, NY.   We are happy to announce that this year’s workshop will feature US Soccer’s most experienced coach educator, Jay Hoffman.

Approaching 40 years of service as a USSF Coaching License Instructor and the co-author of numerous USSF coaching manuals, Hoffman boasts high level coaching experience with both men and women, from youth players on up to the professional level. 

Hoffman’s work as a member of the US Soccer Coaching Staff includes:

Region 1 National Staff Coach, Men’s Olympic Team Scout 2000, Women’s National Team Assistant Coach 1998-1999, Women’s Pan American Games Head Coach 1999, U-20 Men’s National Team Head Coach 1995-1997, U-20 Men’s National Team Assistant Coach 1994-1995, U-17 Men’s National Team Assistant Coach 1992-1993 and 1997, U-18 Women’s National Team Assistant Coach 1993, Regional Olympic Development Program Coach and Staff Instructor, 1998 Men’s World Cup Team Scout, US Paralympic Soccer Team Head Coach for over ten years.

Hoffman’s vast coaching experience also includes:

Men’s Head Coach at Alderson Broaddus College and two stints at Fredonia State University, professional coaching in the MISL with the Cleveland Force and NJ Rockets as an assistant coach and as Head Coach of the Buffalo Stallions, coaching in the NASL as an assistant with the Edmonton Drillers and Houston Hurricanes, coaching in the USL as Head Coach of the Virginia Beach Mariners and coaching in the WUSA as Head Coach of the Boston Breakers. His resume also includes the Director of Coaching and Youth Player Development for Virginia Rush SC (2003-2014).

Among Hoffman’s many notable accomplishments are qualifying the US U20 Men’s National Team for the 1997 World Championships, qualifying the US Paralympic Team for the Paralympics in both 2004 and 2012, winning a 1999 Women’s Pan Am gold medal and winning a 1999 Women’s World Cup gold medal.  Hoffman was inducted into the Virginia Youth Soccer Hall of Fame (2007) and the Ohio North Youth Soccer Hall of Fame (2012) and was the recipient of the prestigious Dr. Tom Fleck Excellence in Youth Coaching Education Award (2008). He served on the 1996 FIFA Olympic Technical Report Committee and served on and authored the U.S. Soccer 1994 World Cup Technical Report.  He also is a Co-Author of USSF Project 2010 and Project Gold (USSF men’s and women’s National Teams High performance plans).

Today, in his role as National Instructional Staff Leader, State and National Licenses, and a National Staff Instructor, Hoffman is considered US Soccer’s top coach educator. US Soccer's lead instructor for teaching its most advanced courses, Hoffman has been instrumental in revising/designing the US Soccer licensing curriculums. No stranger to Western New York, Hoffman once worked on the NYSWYSA staff as an ODP Coach and Coaching Education Instructor during his coaching stints in Fredonia and Buffalo.

Joining Hoffman at the workshop will be NYSWYSA Director of Coaching Education, Chris Hershey, who will present an insightful classroom session that will include US Soccer License updates and focus on how to utilize the resources provided through US Soccer’s new Digital Coaching Center (DCC).

Coach Hoffman will present a lecture on Friday evening at 8pm at the Rochester Italian American Community Center (150 DiMino Way, Rochester)On Saturday, he will conduct two field sessions at 9:15am and again at 1pm.  Coach Hershey will conduct his classroom session on Saturday at 10:45am in the Doug Miller Player’s Lounge.  All sessions on Saturday will take place at the Doug Miller Family Sports Park.  Admission is FREE but attendees must RSVP by November 17, 2016. The NYSWYSA Annual General Meeting will take place at 4pm at the Rochester Italian American Community Center followed by the NYSWYSA Awards Banquet which will be held at the same facility at 6pm.
